Three people drowned while four others survived after the Toyota Hiace Reg. No. ALH 1191 they were travelling in got swept away by the water current at Makungwa Bridge along Kasenengwa road as it was trying to cross the bridge.

The three bodies which were trapped in vehicle have since been retrieved while the four survivors who included the driver managed to swim.

In a related development, two people dead while six others sustained injuries after the Toyota Hiace Reg. No. ALJ 142 they were travelling in overturned after the driver failed to negotiate a corner due to excessive speed.

The injured are admitted to Chipata general hospital while the bodies of the deceased are lying in the mortuary awaiting post mortem.

Both accidents happened in Chipata on 5th January 2015 at 13:00 and 19:00 hours respectively.
