DATE               :           3RD MARCH, 2015

We have instituted investigations into the matter in which the Daily Nation carried a story quoting the UPND leader, Hakainde Hichilema stating that he has been receiving intelligence information meant for the Republican President.

Under the State Security Act Chapter 111 of the Laws of Zambia, it is an offence for any person to receive any information, article, note or any document knowing or having reasonable grounds to believe that such information was given out in contravention of the provisions of the Act.

The said Act further provides that it is an offence for any person to communicate classified information to persons other than to whom he is authorized to communicate.

This morning we have conducted searches at the UPND’s Secretariat where he has an office, his old residence in Kabulonga  and at his residence in new Kasama.

We are also warning civil servants and persons who may be privileged to come across Classified Information and have a tendency of communicating such information to unauthorized persons that they will be arrested and prosecuted according to the provisions of the Law.

The Zambia Police will also work with Government Departments and other Security Institutions to ensure that any breach of the Law with regards to communication of Classified Information is quickly reported.
