There has been an increase of 107 Road Traffic Accidents which left 49 people dead reported this year as compared to 2014 during the Easter holiday when we had 184 with 35 people losing their lives.

Out of the 291 accidents reported this year 21 were fatal, 35 serious while 66 were slight injury accidents. These accidents left 49 people dead, 79 seriously injured and 93 slightly injured.

Out of the 184 accidents recorded in last year, 30 were fatal, 35 serious while 59 were slight injury accidents. The 2014 accidents left 35 people dead, 41 seriously injured and 59 slightly injured.

The increase in the number of people who have lost their lives this year is because of the 22 people who died in the Mazabuka and Kafue accidents.

Most of the causes of the accidents that happened during this period are due to human error. We would like to advise motorists to adhere to road traffic rules and regulations.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Hino truck that was involved in the accident which happened in Kafue at the rail crossing last night has handed himself in to the police. He is currently in custody and will appear in court soon for five counts of causing death by dangerous driving.
