STATEMENT ON CHAWAMA, MASAITI AND SENGA HILL BY-ELECTIONS
The Zambia Police Service has been conducting patrols and sensitizations in the Chawama, Masaiti and Senga Hill constituencies in readiness for the 14th April, 2015 polling day. We have recalled a 270 strong force of officers from Airport, Mobile and Tazara Units as reinforcement to police these by elections. Chawama and Senga Hill will be reinforced by 100 officers each whilst Masaiti will be reinforced by 70 Officers.
We are grateful that all the stake holders cooperated well by adhering to the electoral code of conduct during the campaign period. As we come to the close of the campaign period today the 13th April, 2015 at 18:00 hours, we want to remind all political parties to adhere to the electoral code of conduct by ceasing all campaigns by 18:00 hours today. Thereafter, this will be time for the Electoral Commission of Zambia to carry out their legal mandate of conducting the electoral process in the three (3) constituencies.
The Police will be at hand to ensure smooth running of the electoral process by ensuring that law and order is maintained before, during and after the polling day. The Zambia Police further wants to assure all the eligible electorates in the three (3) constituencies to exercise their constitutional right of voting freely without any intimidations and should report any form of electoral malpractice or violence to the nearest Police Station.
