SENSATIONAL Zambian female boxer Catherine Phiri is Zambia Police Ambassador for Turn-back Crime campaign.

Turn-back Crime campaign which was officially launched on 5^th June, 2014 is an initiative by the International Police Organisation (INTERPOL) to raise awareness against cross border crime, hi-tech and economic crime within the SADC region.

The 21-year-old boxer who was unveiled as an Ambassador for Turn-Back Crime during the campaign Launch which was held at Police Service Headquarters in Lusaka yesterday was clad in a Zambia Police uniform.

In her speech, Phiri stated that crimes such as counterfeit, corruption and crimes against women and children affected the society negatively and that no matter how small a crime can be, at a global scale, they are usually interrelated.

“For me, it is a rare privilege to be a part of the global campaign as an ambassador for the Zambia Police and when I am in the ring I will always fight in good faith with honour and respect for the Law,” Phiri said.

Speaking at the same function, Inspector General of Police, Ms Stella Libongani said Zambia has not been spared from organised crime hence the need to enhance existing relations with members of the public and create new partnerships where they are missing in order to strengthen the fight against crime.

 

Ms Libongani explained that the campaign was about highlighting issues related to dangers of organised crime and its impact on people’s daily lives.

“It is a community based crime prevention programme enhancing collaboration between members of the community and Law enforcement officers,” she said.

The police Chief urged other Government agencies, the private sector and the general public to play an active role in the fight against organised criminal activities in collaboration with the Zambia Police.

She mentioned that Zambia Police had chosen to partner with Catherine Phiri under the management of the Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotion as an Ambassador in the dissemination of awareness messages to the community on crime matters.

She said the campaign would be championed by Community Services Division (CSD) under the Zambia Police working in partnership with Oriental Quarries Promotion who manage Catherine Phiri in implementing programmes aimed at reaching out to the public.
