Zambia Police Thrift and Credit Cooperative Society (ZPTCCS) has ushered in a new board chairperson, replacing Mr. Eugene Sibote whose tenure expired after serving for two terms.

The delegates that gathered over the weekend at Prince Charles Hotel in Lusaka for the  ZPTCCS Annual General Meeting  voted for Ms Matinda Mvula to take over the nine-member board chair, making her the first ever female  to be a chairperson of the cooperative since its inception in 1951.

Ms Mvula who is a Superintendent by rank based at Police Headquarters was until her appointment a board member of the ZPTCCS.

After deliberating for the whole day, the members could not close their AGM which went into the night without filling up four positions that fell vacant and the Registrar of Societies was at hand to conduct the elections.

The ZPTCCS board has two new entrants, Ms Ruth Mwindula an Instructor at Kamfinsa Training School and Joseph Ngoma a chaplain from Eastern Division.

While the other two seats fell vacant as Mr Moonga was removed from the board due to non attendant of meeting as the other seat being re-contested by Miriam Mukwasa a Chief Inspector at Lusaka Division.

And earlier on, Inspector General of Police, Ms Stella Libongani who officially opened the Annual General Meeting urged the society to make sufficient sensitization on its services for the members to appreciate the organisation.

“Here am reminded about the product called benevolent fund, my observations are that there hasn’t been much done in terms sensitization or marketing programs with regard to this product which is very beneficial. But if members are not made aware of how beneficial it is, they tend to harbour feelings which may not be right,” Ms Libongani said.

Ms Libongani noted that the saving culture among police officers was not good and implored on the society to continue sensitizing the members of the importance of saving, stating that savings generate capital for investment thereby guarantees one a chance to a quality life after retirement.

In his farewell remarks, out-going ZPTCCS board chairperson, Mr. Eugene Sibote said he had the trust in the new board that it would deliver to the expectations of the rest of the members of the society.

Mr Sibote assured the new board that as an out-going chairperson, he remained open for any consultation as he remained as an ordinary member of the society.
