KANGANJA IS NEW INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE

Republican President His Excellence, Mr. Edgar Lungu has appointed Mr Kakoma Kanganja as the new Inspector General of Police, replacing Ms Stella Libongani who has been deployed into the foreign mission.President Lungu Swearing New Police IG  Mr Kakoma Kanganja.Story

And President Lungu has urged the new Inspector General of Police to apply the Public Order Act fairly and firmly so as to have free and peaceful tripartite elections in 2016.

Mr. Lungu, who is Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces has also elevated Eastern Province Police Commissioner, Mr. Eugene Sibote to the position of Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Administration.

SIBOTE 1Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony at State House, Mr. Lungu stated that there was need for the police to engage the politicians and other stakeholders on the Public Order Act as the nation goes into an election year.

On political violence, President Lungu urged the police not to be deceived by perpetrators of violence under the disguise of political party affiliations but instead deal with violence as a crime.

“Don’t allow criminals to deceive you as politicians. When they have committed offences, deal with them as criminals and not as politicians, a criminal is a criminal, whether they are priests, pastors or politician, Mr. Lungu said.

Before his new appointment, Mr. Kanganja was Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Administration.

Ms Stella Libongani became the first woman to be Inspector General of Police when she was appointed by the late Republican President Mr. Michael Sata in 2012

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by senior government official, among them were Republican Vice President Ms Inonge Wina, Home Affairs Minister, Mr. Davies Mwila and his two Deputies, Mr. Panji Kaunda and Gerry Chanda respectively.
