STATEMENT BY THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE ON TANKER DRIVERS

The Zambia Police would like to commend the tanker drivers for resuming their operations and being peaceful during their work stand-off. We also take cognizant of the fact that despite the work stoppage, the drivers did not resort to violence like in other instances where people resort to destroying property when aggrieved.

However, we would like to urge them to always use their Union representatives each time they would want to air their grievances to avoid creating volatile situations which may affect the economy.

As Zambia Police we will always protect all those who adhere to the provisions of the law in airing their grievances.

We would also like to assure the tanker drivers of continued police protection in the execution of their duties.
