Police in Lusaka have apprehended four notorious criminals and two car breakers who have been behind the spate of aggravated robberies involving vehicles.

The criminals initially booked a taxi from Club Zone in Matero to Woodlands. Along the way, they asked the driver to pick up two more passengers and when they reached Chilenje, they produced an AK 47, pushed the driver out of the car and drove away. The incident happened on 25th January 2016 around 20:00 hours.

A Toyota Harrier, an AK47 with 19 rounds of ammunition as well as a police uniform were also recovered from the criminals. The Toyota Harrier which was stolen a few weeks ago from Lusaka West was being used as a back-up vehicle.

The four criminals led the officers to the car breakers where they have been taking the vehicles after stealing them where they were eventually sold as spare parts.

Of late there have been increasing incidences of taxis being stolen either whilst parked or after being booked by criminals. As Zambia Police we still appeal to taxi drivers more especially those who operate at night to be accompanied and report all suspicious looking persons to the police.
