ByJoyce Nyirenda and Timothy Malumo

Zambia Police Service has impounded ten trucks laden with 30 metric tons of maize brand each.

The ten trucks belonging to Galco Transport and Logistics were impounded at Chirundu One-stop Border Post heading for a named neighbouring country.

The trucks were impounded after a tip off from the members of the public.

Deputy Director in charge of Operations, Alfred Nawa, said Police are very much alert and are working round the clock in bringing maize smugglers to book.

Mr. Nawa said police has decided to take this firm stance because the levels of maize stealing in the country was getting out of hand.

‘’We are not going to allow lawlessness in the country, we shall administer the law firmly and fairly to all citizens regardless of one’s status in society’’,he said.

He further warned would-be offenders to desist from the vice forthwith. All the impounded trucks are in Police custody and the suspects will appear in court soon.
