Zambia Police Human Resource Deputy Director Elizabeth Kanjela has been elected chairperson for the police service headquarters Women Network.

Ms Kanjela went through unopposed during the elections which were held at police headquarters in Lusaka recently.

The Network, which has been non-operative at police headquarters due to various reasons among them transfers of some senior women police personnel, pledged to fully address all issues affecting women in the service.

“The objectives of the Network  is to provide support structures for female police officers, facilitate career development of women through training and to serve as a motivational structure that increases awareness on gender issues among others,” Ms Kanjela said during her maiden address.

The position of vice Chairperson went to Senior Superintendent Elizabeth Kalala while the secretary is Sargent Rosaria Nchima deputised by Chief Inspector Chipo Kaitisha. The treasurer is Chief Inspector Beatrice Siamakobe.

Ms. Kanjela thanked all the women Police officers for voting her in office and promised to motivate female police officers so that they rise to higher positions within the rank and file of the police service.

She hopes the network to have some running projects which will be generating income for it to sustain itself.

The main project she wants to see in place as soon as possible is a community school with minimal paying rates in order to benefit the vulnerable children within the police camps.

Ms. Kanjela is past chairperson for Lilayi Women Network based at Police Training College where she boasts of among other projects constructing a female abolition block for trainees and a restaurant which is still running.
