STATEMENT ON ANNUAL RTA STATISTICS FOR THE YEAR, 2019 

Lusaka 22nd January, 2020-During 2019 a total number of 30,648 accidents were recorded as compared to 2018 were we recorded 30,652 showing a decrease by four road traffic accidents.

During 2019, Police recorded 1,462 Fatal road traffic accidents in which 1,746 persons died, 2,940 were serious road traffic accidents in which 5,012 persons were injured and  5,713 were slight Injuries road traffic accidents in which 8,149 persons were slightly injured and 20,533 were recorded as damage only road traffic accidents.

As compared to 2018 which recorded 1,636 fatal road accidents in which 1,817 persons died, serious road traffic accidents were 3,392 were 5,266 persons were seriously injured in the previous year, slight injury road traffic accidents were 6,891 in which 8,739 were slightly injured while 18,733 damage only road traffic accidents were recorded in 2018.

Lusaka Province recorded the highest number of road traffic accidents with 16,435, followed by Copperbelt with 5,111 whilst Muchinga Province recorded the least with 731 road traffic accidents.

During 2019 145,984 road traffic offences were recorded and K 44,731,459.00 was raised as Admission of Guilty fine as compared to 149,879 road traffic offences recorded where K 44,084,661.00 was Admission of Guilty raised in 2018. Despite the reduction in road traffic offences by 3, 895, the Admission of Guilty fines has increased by K646, 798.00 in 2019.
