 The core functions of

fingerprints include:

The establishment of natural information of person’s with criminal records.

  • keeping records of all people with previous convictions,
  • Identifying criminals, preventing the system of stealing person’s identities.

With the growing population, Zambia Police Service is currently working on modern ways of investigating fingerprints. The Automated Fingerprints Information System (AFIS) will soon be the new method of providing easy way of accessing results of convicted persons and those seeking clearance from Police through criminal records.

The other new development that the Police Service is about to venture into is the opening of Bureaus at all Police Divisional Headquarters throughout the country. The introduction of this system will help the service reduce on the travel costs.

Clearances may be obtained for various reasons such as in pursuit of employment either in public or private sector and when one intends to travel abroad.

The fees for fingerprints vary and are dependent on what an individual person wants to use them for.
