Tazara Division was established on 1st January, 1974 with the purpose of maintaining security to Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) and Tanzania Mafuta pipelines (TAZAMA) from Nakonde to Kapiri Mposhi and Ndola. The two installations are of economic importance to the country as they are outlets to the sea at the port of Dar-es-Salaam. Copper which is our country’s main foreign exchange earner is cheaply transported to the markets through Tanzania- Zambia Railways to the port of Der-es-Salaam in Tanzania.
The division is headed by a Commanding Officer holding a rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police. This is an officer who oversees the running of the entire police in the division. The Commanding Officer communicates all matters related to police to the office of the Inspector General of Police. The Commanding Officer is deputised by the Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police.
Divisional Criminal Investigations Office
The Divisional Criminal Investigations office is headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP). This is an office that is in charge of all criminal investigations in the Province. All criminal Investigation Officers or detectives fall under this office.
