the Institution has realised the need to continue increasing its levels of transparency and accountability in its operations to maximise on quality public service delivery. The institution’s performance can greatly improve if it receives timely and constructive feedback from the community it serves.

This website has been developed in line with our 2013-2016 strategic plan which focuses on building a professional and accountable police force that provides quality law enforcement for a safer and secure Zambia. You may also be aware that the government has embarked on reforms aimed at enhancing public service delivery through the e-government programme. This programme is intended to provide members of the public with access to information and documentation through online communication.

Hence, the rationale for developing the website is to respond to the e-governance policy in accordance with the vision of the Patriotic Front government and its resolve to fight corruption and reduce the cost of public service delivery as well as access. You may all agree with me that it is not always necessary for citizens to travel, especially long, distances to police facilities just to access information and security tips, on crimes such as gender based violence cases procedures for securing a police report, requirements for establishing community crime prevention units and the right of accused persons to a police bond among others.

While it is true that some criminal elements have taken advantage of the developments in technology to commit crimes, information communication technology (ICT) also provides a wide range of platforms for countering the scourge at family, community, national and international levels. Zambia Police has empirical evidence indicating that through the use of ICT gadgets such as cell phones and computers with internet connectivity it is possible to deliver police services right up to the door steps of our clients in their various community settings via the website.

This website we are launching today constitutes a collection of pages on the world wide web containing specific information about the organisation, its structure, functions, services and procedures of accessing them.

It is also through this ICT platform that the Zambia Police strategic plan which provides detailed information about the police’s vision, mission, goal, values, objectives and strategies will be shared with the general public.

The website we are launching today is purposefully designed in an interactive manner which allows for the exchange of information between the Zambia Police and the general public in our endeavour to wipe out crime across the country. Consequently, it is our hope that through this measure we shall receive information and feedback from our clients for achieving effective planning and timely response to the needs of society thereby contributing to the socio-economic development of our nation.

In conclusion, I wish to state that Zambia Police will remain focussed as it pursues its vision aimed at achieving a significant reduction in the incidences of crime and other offences. In order to achieve these goals, we shall optimise on the prudent utilisation of the existing support and good will from the government, members of the public and cooperating partners through every available means.
