NORTH WESTERN PROVINCE
North Western province is situated in the North western part of Zambia. It has international boundaries with two countries namely: Republic of Angola in the west and Democratic Republic of Congo to the north. The south and eastern parts of the province share provincial boundaries with the Zambian provinces of Western, Central and Copperbelt.
Mining
Mining is the main economic activity of north Western Province. Solwezi district has two operational mines namely Kansanshi, Lumwana mines and Kalumbila mines officially known as Trident.
Large scale copper explorations are underway in Kasmpa and Mwinilunga districts. The province has great opportunities for investiments in many areas ranging from agricultural, infrastructure development and energy generation.
These mining activities have attracted investments and specialised manpower from other countries as well as Copperbelt and other parts of Zambia.
GEOGRAPHICAL AND POPULATION CHARACTERISTICS
The province has nine districts namely; Manyinga, Solwezi, Mwinilunga, Kasempa, Kabompo, Mufumbwe, Zambezi, Ikelenge and Chavuma. Solwezi is the headquarters and also the main gateway to the Copperbelt via Chingola and through to the rest of the Country.
POLICE ADMINISTRATION
The province is headed by a Commissioner of Police stationed at Solwezi.
