WESTERN PROVINCE 21ST OCTOBER, 2016-
15 People plus the driver died on the spot while 38 others survived in a road traffic fatal accident that occurred along Mongu Lusaka road around 23:30 hours at Namilangi area on 20th October, 2016.
Involved was a Higer Bus registration number ALV 9498 which had 30 passengers and two bus crew on board, a Mitsubishi Rosa Bus registration number AAX 8562 had 21 passengers on board and a Toyota Rav4 registration number ALP 4038.
The accident happened when the driver of the Higer Bus was trying to overtake the Rav4 which was stationery due to a breakdown as he was coming from Senanga and heading to Lusaka, in the process collided head-on with the Mitsubishi Rosa Bus which was coming from Lusaka heading to Mongu.
15 Passengers plus the driver from the Mitsubishi Bus died on the spot while five survived.
All the passengers from the Higer Bus plus the driver identified as Mangolwa Muyanga were injured and are admitted to Kaoma District Hospital , together with the five passengers who survived from the Mitsubishi Rosa Bus where they are receiving treatment.
Among the 16 that died, the following have been identified as Edwin Mbao, a soldier based at Luena Barracks in Kaoma, Tantine Kilundu aged 26 together her son and Prince Mihigo aged 6 refugees of Mayukwayukwa refugee camp from Congo DR.
All the deceased are lying in Kaoma District Hospital Mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem.
We are appealing to members of the public who could have their relatives travelling from Lusaka to Mongu on a Rosa Bus to go and help in the identification of the bodies.

There is information circulating on social media insinuating that the Head of State, His Excellency, Mr Edgar Lungu is unwell and that the Defence and Security wings are making arrangements for her Honour the Vice President to take over office.
We would like to inform members of the public that this information is a total malicious fabrication and one of the numerous falsehoods and ill intended motives and conduct being perpetrated through the highly abused social media aimed at misleading the general populace and causing alarm.
As Zambia Police, we urge members of the public to disregard this deceptive and alarming information and treat it with the highest contempt that it deserves.
We have instituted investigations in the matter and all those that will be found to be behind the act will be arrested and dealt with in accordance to the provisions of the law.
We are also reminding the general public that other than the authors of any alarming information or statement, any person that participates in circulating such alarming information also risks being arrested.
We therefore, urge all members of the public to take heed of this timely warning and desist from participating in communicating falsehood that has potential to cause fear in the public, be it through social media or indeed any other means or channels of communication.

Air Max 95 20th AnniversaryLUSAKA, 11th October, 2016 - Police in Solwezi have arrested Peter Kamatongo and Elizabeth Nyambi both of Wisdom Compound for allegedly having murdered Alfred Mulundano aged 35 of Katwamba village, Chief Kasemba of Kasempa District.
It is alleged that between 8th October around 15:00 hours and 10th October, 2016 around 13:30 hours, the duo allegedly assaulted the deceased using kicks and a bamboo stick and he sustained injuries. He was rushed to Solwezi General Hospital the same day where he was admitted and later died on the 10th October, 2016 around 13:30 hours. The suspects have been charged for murder and will appear in court soon. The body of the deceased is in Solwezi General Hospital mortuary.
In a similar development, in Luapula Province, Police have arrested a man identified as Levy Mwewa for allegedly having attacked and attempted to kill his father Joseph Mumba aged 54 of Mpunduka Village in Mansa after he set ablaze the house in which the victim was sleeping. The victim sustained burns on both shoulders. Reasons for the suspect’s action is not yet established. The suspect is in Police custody and will appear in court soon.
Meanwhile, Police in Lusaka retrieved a body of a male person aged between 20 and 25 which was found floating on Ngwenya Dam by members of the public on 10th October, 2016 around 09:20 hours.
The body was found with a swollen face and was bleeding from the nose. The victim is believed to have been murdered by unknown people and later thrown into the dam. The deceased was putting on a black and white T-shirt and blue jean trousers. Investigations into a matter have been instituted.
We are appealing to members of the public who could be missing a relative to visit University Teaching Hospital Mortuary where the body was deposited awaiting identification and postmortem.

Nikewe summoned Gerald Shawa, 42 who is Managing Director of Prime TV and Makokwa Kozi, 35, the acting Station Manager for the television Station in connection with a leaked government document which the Zambia Police addressed to the Station's legal counsel requesting for footage of the Press briefing that was held by the UPND on 10th October, 2016.
They have been Warned and Cautioned for the offence of Communication of Certain Information contrary to section 4 (1)(b) of the State Security Act Chapter 111 of the Laws of Zambia.
Section 4 (1) (b) of the State Security Act states that :-
Any person who has in his possession or under his control any document or information which he has had access owing to his position as a person who holds such office or has held such office and who:-
(b) communicates the same to any person other than a person to whom he is authorised to communicate , commits an offence.

We would like to inform members of the public that there is a new crime wave which has emerged where fraudsters are using face book to lure unsuspecting people to make cash deposits in Bank accounts on pretext that they would secure for them employment.
In this type of cybercrime, Fraudsters are creating fake face book accounts using information and profile pictures of prominent people in society, among them First Lady, Mrs Esther Lungu, Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kakoma Kanganja, former Finance Minister, Mr. Alexander Chikwanda, Former Minister of Works and Supply, Mr. Yamfwa Mukanga and Former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr. Mukondo Lungu.
Our investigations have also revealed that these fraudsters are using false information to open Bank accounts to avoid easy detection and are working in collaboration with foreigners, to which some members of the public have fallen victim and have made cash deposits.
One person identified as Gideon Chibwe has since been apprehended and charged with three counts of impersonation where he impersonated the First Lady, Mrs Esther Lungu, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kakoma Kanganja and Former Minister of Finance, Mr Alexander Chikwanda.
He is also facing two counts of Obtaining Money by False Pretences and one count of Attempting to Obtain Money by False Pretences.
Gideon Chibwe who works for Roma Security Company was purporting to be an employee of Mazabuka Municipal Council.
We are therefore advising members of the public to be wary of such criminal activities and avoid falling prey.
Furthermore, we are warning all those involved in such scams both locals and foreigners to desist from the act as the Zambia Police Service is on high alert to ensure that all those involved are brought to book.
