WESTERN PROVINCE

Geographical Position

Western Division is located in Western Province of the Republic of Zambia and it borders with Angola in the west and Namibia in the south. It also stretches from Kafue National Park in the west up to Angola in the western direction covering an area of 126,368 square kilometres with a population of slightly above 800,000.

ORGANISATION AND ADMINISTRATION

The division is headed by a Commissioner of Police with its headquarters in Mongu. It has 16 districts namely Mongu, Kaoma, Sesheke, Senanga, Kalabo, Lukulu, Shangombo, Sikongo, Limulunga, Nalolo, Mulobezi, Mitete, Luampa, Nkeyema, Sioma and Mwandi. These districts are further divided into three police districts run by Senior Superintendents and these districts are Mongu, Sesheke and Kaoma.

Divisional Criminal Investigations Office

The Divisional Criminal Investigations office is headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP). This is an office that is in charge of all criminal investigations in the Province. All criminal Investigation Officers or detectives fall under this office.

Divisional Prosecutions Office

This is an office that is headed by the Divisional Prosecutions Officer who oversees the prosecution of all cases within the province. All Police prosecutors in this province fall under this office.

The province also has the operations office which handles all disturbances experienced within the province, the Community Services Division (CSD) which works in liaison with members of the public in creating safer communities and the Divisional Traffic Office which addresses all traffic issues within the province. This section is headed by the Divisional Traffic Officer.

All the sections mentioned above report to the office of the Provincial Commissioner.
