We would like to dismiss information circulating on social media headlined "EDGAR LUNGU REMOVES HOUSING ALLOWANCE FOR POLICE OFFICERS" in which the author / authors have reported that the office of the Inspector General of Police received a circular stating that police officers will no longer be receiving their housing allowance effective November 2016.

At no point did the office of the Inspector General receive any circular from Government  suggesting or indicating the removal of housing allowance for police officers as purported by the authors.

We therefore advise members of the public to treat such unsubstantiated and baseless information with the contempt it deserves as it was originated by day dreamers whose aim is to mislead members of the public and also to ferment hate in police officers.

We would also want to make it clear that only police officers who are NOT accommodated in government houses are entitled to housing allowance.
