Annual Crime Statistics for the year ending December 2014

During the period under review, a total of 77,973 criminal cases were recorded in the ten operational provinces of the Republic of Zambia as compared to 88,384 cases recorded in the year 2013. Cases reported reduced by 10,411 representing 11.77. Of the reported cases, 38,640 arrests were made representing an arrest rate of 49.5 percent. This is in contrast to 36,218 arrests made in 2013 representing an arrest rate of 40.97 percent. Copperbelt and Lusaka provinces recorded the majority 56.40 percent of the total cases reported during the period under review. In 2013, the two provinces also topped the list of number of cases reported which accounted for 61.83 percent of the reported cases. In 2014, Luapula and Muchinga provinces recorded the lowest number of reported cases which accounted for 5.24 Percent of the total number. However, in 2013, Northern and Muchinga provinces recorded the lowest number of reported cases which accounted for 3.99 percent of the total number.
