PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICE

Zambia Police Public Relations is an office which anticipates, analyses and interpret public opinion, attitudes and issues that might impact, for good or ill, the operations and plans of the institution.

It counsels Police command at all levels with regard to policy decisions, courses of action and communication, taking into account their public difficulties and the organization’s social responsibilities. It is also a mouth piece of the police and bridges the gap with the public.

FUNCTIONS OF PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICE

  • Planning, developing and implementing public relations strategies,
  • Liaising with and answering enquiries from media, the public/individuals and other organisations,
  • Researching, writing and distributing press releases to targeted media organisations;
  • Analysing and responding to media coverage as regards to the Zambia Police as an institution;
  • Organising events including press conferences/briefings, exhibitions, open days and press tours or tours to the institutions by interested parties;
  • Fostering community relations through events such as open days and through involvement in community initiatives in a bid to maintain good relations between police and the public;
    WINTER BUNDLES
  • Planning publicity strategies and campaigns in managing potential crisis  situation
  • Writing press releases on the operations of the police to the media,as well as developing and implementing proactive media relations and communication programs that raise the overall visibility of the institution.
  • Conducting and evaluating programs of action and communication to achieve the informed public understanding necessary to the success of an organization’s aims.

THE NEWSROOM

A newsroom is an office which falls under the Public Relations office headed by the Editor. The office has journalists, photographers and video producers who are police officers.

These journalists gather news to be published in the Police News Magazine.The publication of the in-house magazine is beneficial to the institution as it communicates organisational goals, operations, aspirations and objectives to both the internal and external publics.The publication outlines internal and external objectives that an organisation stands for in terms of quality assurance (quality service), corporate social responsibility, and staff welfare among other things.


The publication also acts as a public relations tool for the institutionin an effort to reduce the gap between police and its publics. This publication was introduced with intent to influence or create own institutional media through which policy can be communicated to the public as well as members of the Police.

The unit also manages periodical productionsthrough video production and leaflets such as brochures on police programs and operations to be broadcast through the media as a way of informing the public on police operations.

The unit also collects government revenue through authentication of documents for clients.

The Unit Supports all programmes as designed by the Public Relations Office and as assigned by command.In other ways, it is an operative of the public relations office.
