LUSAKA DIVISION

Lusaka Division lies in the central part of Zambia. It shares boundaries with eastern province on the Eastern sid while in the western side it shares with central province while on the western part with southern province. The province has nine (9) distrcits namely Kafue, Luangwa, Chilanga, Rufunsa, Shibuyunji, Lusaka, Chongwe including Siavonga and Chirundu. Siavonga and Chirundu are geographically located in the southern province but administratively falling under the jurisdiction of Lusaka Police Division. The Division Headquarters office block is situated on Church road of the capital city of the republic of Zambia.

AREA AND POPULATION

The province covers an area surface of 25,767 square Kilometres including Siavonga and Chirundu which are in Southern province. It has a total population of about 2,250,089 people including Chirundu and Siavonga districts. This is according to 2010 CSO population census.


 

ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE

The province is headed by a Police Provincial Commissioner who is deputised by the Deputy Commissioner of Police.

Divisional Criminal Investigations Office

The Divisional Criminal Investigations office is headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP). This is an office that is in charge of all criminal investigations in the Province. All criminal Investigation Officers or detectives fall under this office. The department is further segmented into sections in order to maximise effectiveness and efficiency as follows;

  • Breakings
  • Scenes of Crime
  • General Theft
  • Special Investigations
  • Anti- stock Theft
  • Homicide and Violence
  • Anti-Motor Vehicle Theft
  • Fraud


  • Criminal Investigations department
  • Prosecution
  • Police intelligence

 These sections have endeavoured to yield positive results. Lusaka being a capital City has a unique position in terms of crime prevalence considering the population and high economic activities.

Divisional Prosecutions Office

This is an office that is headed by the Divisional Prosecutions Officer who oversees the prosecution of all cases within the province. All Police prosecutors in this province fall under this office.

The province also has the operations office which handles all disorders experienced within the province, the Community Services Division (CSD) which works in liaison with members of the public in creating safer communities and the Divisional Traffic Office which addresses all traffic issues within the province. This section is headed by the Divisional Traffic Officer.

All the sections mentioned above report to the office of the Provincial Commissioner.


 

Districts

The division currently is administered through two police districts namely Lusaka Urban and Lusaka Rural.

Police Stations

Lusaka Division has 23 Police Stations of which 14 are in Lusaka urban district and 9 in Lusaka Rural district.

 

Police Posts

The division has 77 Police Posts falling under various Police stations in Rural and Urban Districts.

The division has further endeavoured to attain the following objectives:

1. To attain a zero tolerance to corruption.

2. To attain a zero tolerance to aimed crimes and other related crimes.

3. To maintain quality police service delivery, etc.
